Korean Grilled Chicken Breasts – juicy, flavorful and EASY!

Korean BBQ Chicken Breasts

I love Korean food, and these grilled Korean chicken breasts are no exception! The marinade takes boring breast meat and transforms it into a delicious dish great served over rice, as a lettuce wrap or as part of a bowl. More Korean dishes I love are these easy Korean Beef Bowls, Gochujang Glazed Salmon and these Korean inspired Gochujang Glazed Meatballs.

This is the BEST grilled chicken recipe! Not just because I’m obsessed with Korean food, it’s just so juicy and flavorful, and this is coming from a girl her prefers dark meat. It’s also quick and easy to make, perfect for weeknight grilling.

The marinade is so good you’ll never want to buy the bottle stuff, I promise! You can serve the chicken over rice, or with a simple veggie slaw. If you make this, please come back and leave a comment telling me what you think – enjoy!

Korean BBQ Chicken Breast Tips and Variations

  • So the chicken cooks evenly place the chicken breasts, 1 at a time, in a Ziploc bag. Pound the chicken breast to an even thickness, about ½ inch thick, being careful not to puncture the bag.
  • If you prefer dark meat you can also use this on boneless chicken thighs.
  • To make them into kabobs, cut the chicken in cubes and marinate, then thread onto skewers.

  1. Hi
I love this recipe- so easy and flavourful. I usually make it on the bbq or air fryer. I’m wondering if anyone has tried baking it and if so, do you bake it in the marinade?

  2. Made this but cooked in air fryer. Loved the marinade. So flavorful and juicy. Making it today with thighs. Yum.

  3. Has anyone ever done this on a Traeger? Just wondering if cook times say the same. Thanks. Can’t wIt to make this.

  4. So good! The marinade is so flavorful! I did use gochujang instead of red pepper flakes, but I know it’s delicious either way. Served with veggie fried cauliflower rice. Devoured by 5 kids and 2 parents, so I’ll definitely make this again and again.

  5. Loved this recipe! We have done it a few times now and we loved it adding this chicken sub with cheese. This will definitely be a go to recipe for something quick and easy this summer.

  6. made this recipe and made kebobs on the grill with yellow summer squash and green pepper. This marinade gave a really great flavor to the chicken. I let it soak for 2 hours or so in the afternoon. It cooked quickly on the grill and the end result was moist and tender. Everyone LOVED IT! My teenage daughter came back for seconds! Great dinner option for the work week. Also, a great way to use up applesauce!

  7. So yummy and very easy to prepare! I prepared another batch to put in the freezer to just thaw and grill on busy days.
While grilling the chicken, I put on a grill basket of assorted red, yellow and green bell peppers, pineapple, onion and zucchini to grill alongside the chicken. Served with rice.

  8. This is one of the best recipes I’ve ever made it was so flavorful and I made a cucumber salad with it, it was the perfect side dish. I cut back the heat just a bit but I think I cut it too much I’d have liked a little more. Hubby raved about it so that made me happy! Thank you.

Super happy I stumbled upon this recipe. It’s very flavourful and will be a regular rotation now in our weekly meal prep.

  10. So delicious! This makes a perfect topper to a salad or chopped slaw. I made this for meal prep and everyone was jealous of the fantastic smell. Flavorful!

  11. Everyone loved it! My kids are fairly picky as is my mother, but everyone enjoyed it! Made it in the airfryer because I didn’t have a good way to grill and it was perfect!

Hi, how long and at what temp did you do in the air fryer? I’m making this tonight and think I will do it this way. Thanks!

  12. Absolutely delicious!! Perfect for us as written, I served it over quinoa. Thank you for all you do for all of us!!

  13. Delicious and in my rotation! I never have applesauce, so I simmer a cut-up peeled apple with water to make my own. Red pepper flakes are not optional! I use whatever chicken I have on hand, most recently chicken tenders that I smashed with a rolling pin, and I pan fry. This flavor profile would also be great with shrimp or tofu. Great over brown rice with steamed broccoli.

  14. Very tasty and juicy indeed this is now my favorite way to grill chicken, I used a magic bullet to combine the ingredients this allowed me to use a whole apple (no applesauce) but I read someone used a pear will have to try that depending on the season.

  15. Love this recipe, the marinade makes it great. I did let it go 24 hours, and then grilled. Had it with some steamed broccoil, angel hair pasta and sliced peaches, with thai basil, chives more sesame seeds as a side. (A favorite chicken recipe and I am not even wild about Asian usually but this I love. )

  16. Hi, I’m excited to try this recipe. Do I need to use regular sesame oil or is toasted sesame oil also a good option?
    Thanks!

  17. I made this tonight despite my husband being less than excited when I told him we were having “grilled chicken breasts” for dinner….we both LOVED it & he is as big of a fan of your recipes as I am. Thank you!

  18. This was quick, easy and oh so tasty. I didn’t have brown sugar and we like a little heat so I added Thai sweet chili sauce in place of the sugar and a squirt of sriracha in lieu of red pepper. Really tasty with the Asian jar salad also on this site. Thanks Gina!

I swapped the apple juice with Mirin and the chicken was absolutely delicious ….. I highly recommend this recipe

  20. DELICIOUS! I reduced the red pepper flakes to 1/4 tsp (1 tsp would have been too much for us), and I didn’t include onions  because my husband doesn’t like them. The chicken was still very tasty. I will definitely be making again.

Hi Gina & blog readers – what indoor grill would any of you recommend? I would love to get one & try out this recipe

  22. This was excellent, I only used 1/4 t red pepper flakes. I up it to 1/2 t next time. My husband does not like too much heat.

    1. Delicious. I made this using 3.89 pounds of chicken so I adjusted the quantity of ingredients. I don’t have a girll so I did half in the air fryer for 30 minutes and I baked the other half in the oven at 425 for about 45 minutes. Delicious!

  23. Delicious!  Even my picky hubby said it was good.

Wanted to say thank you for posting recipes with WW points and nutrition. I appreciate it.

  24. I don’t have apple juice… what substitute can I use?
Can I throw in apple sauce or is that gross? Lol

  25. Hi, I’m a little confused about the amount of chicken to use. The recipe says “1 pound 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts.” Is it one pound total? Or one pound two ounces? Thanks!

  26. This was delicious!!!! I made stir fry veggies with it. I didn’t have applesauce so I left it out. Will definitely put on my favorite recipe list!

  27. Fantastic recipe – sweet, spicy, lots of flavor! I used boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1″ cubes, marinated a few hourse, then threaded onto kabobs, which I grilled outdoors. big hit at our house, was told I must add to our rotation!

  28. Very easy, and delicious! The whole family loved it. I left out the sesame seeds as I didn’t have any on hand. Served with white rice, grilled peaches, fresh mango.

  29. This recipe is amazing. I fed it to company again last night and every single time I make it, I love it even more!

  30. Just made this tonight.  It’s excellent! Served with fried rice and tomato cucumber salad.  Next time I’ll double it.

  31. Easy and simple recipe. Delicious! I used sriracha sauce instead of the red pepper flakes. It had a tiny zing to it. Will try with more sriracha to have more heat in the future. I paired this dish with a spicy cucumber salad and rice. A crowd favorite!

  32. I made this delicious Korean chicken recipe as written and it was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be adding it into my regular chicken recipe rotation.

  33. we all love Korean food but this recipe was simply not good. None of my chefs liked it, nor did i. It is probably the lack of some sort of oil that can take a higher cooking temperature (not only the sesame oil)..
Sorry to have to say this.

  34. Why isn’t this considered low carb? It seems to be similar in carb count to some other low carb chicken recipes.

  35. This was very flavorful and a huge hit for the whole family!
My kids said this recipe is a keeper!

  36. Could this work as a freezer recipe? Looking for some chicken dump Ziploc recipes to prep for a busy week!

  37. When I plug the calories… into the WW calculator it comes up as 4 smart points. I just joined WW. And getting confused btw freestyle pojnts, smart points and points plus. I thought the current program is freestyle?

    1. All smart points have been updated to the freestyle program. The only accurate way to determine any recipe’s SmartPoints® value is to plug the ingredients into the recipe builder on the Weight Watchers website (Click on “My Foods,” select “Recipe,” and click “Create a recipe.”) which does not count fruits and vegetables in recipes in the calculations as they are now 0 points.

The SmartPoints® calculator isn’t meant for recipes and will often give you the wrong points (usually higher) because it’s counting the fruits and vegetables. So if you see a recipe with a SmartPoints® value that’s different from what the calculator tells you, now you know why.

This is the best recipe for chicken! I substituted a number of
Items including maple syrup for apples and olive oil for sesame, and it still came out amazing. A winner.

  39. What do you do with the green onions listed at the bottom of the ingredients? The recipe doesn’t specify if it should be added to marinade, since there are 2 types of onions called for and the recipe instructions only direct us to add “onion” to marinade. Can you please clarify?

  40. Wow this chicken is unbelievable! So much flavour, and came out so tender you could cut it with the side of your fork! This is a keeper! Will be making again and again. I marinated mine for about 4 hours, and served it with cauliflower rice and green beans.  2 point dinner for the win!

  41. Amazing! I ordered takeout Korean the day before to have a fresh comparison. Your recipe was restaurant quality!

  42. Hi there! May I make a suggestion? Is it possible to have the complete total of time listed on the recipe so that it includes marinade time? It’s partially my fault for not reading through all the steps, but when it says total time is 20 minutes it’s a bit misleading.  Just my two cents! Thank you as always for your amazing recipes!

  43. I forgot how much I love Korean bbq. This was amazing. I was hoping for leftovers for lunch the next day but boyfriend made sure there was nothing left lol

  44. Loved this! I have a husband with celiac disease and two picky teen boys. They all wolfed it down. I doubled the recipe to have leftovers…there weren’t any! I used thin sliced chicken breasts from the grocery store which cut the prep time even more. This easy meal is going into our weeknight rotation. Thanks!

  45. Loved this recipe. Curious as to why it’s 2 freestyle points per serving. The only thing with points is the one teaspoon of oil – or am I missing something I should be scanning? Thanks!!

    1. The Soy sauce is 1 point for 1/4 cup, light brown sugar is 3 points for 1 tbsp, apple sauce is 1 point for 1/4 cup and sesame oil is 1 point for 1 tsp

  46. Unbelievably good! I didn’t have applesauce either, so I just microwaved a cut-up apple and mashed it. I’ll definitely make this again soon!

  47. I loved this and i only marinated it for 2 hours, next time 24hrs just to see if it can actually taste better! Bonus too, i didnt have any applesauce and made some myself, so easy!

  48. What can I use instead of the apple sauce? Don’t think I’ve ever seen this in the supermarkets over here in the UK. Thanks!

    1. You could buy 4 to 5 pounds of apples, core them, and then saute/simmer them down into a sauce. You could take the skin off first (if they are non-organic) or leave them on if they are organic. If you leave the skin on, you’d want to use a blender (immersion is preferable) to mulch up the skins after cooking. Homemade apple sauce is the best!

    2. You can buy pouches of applesauce in the baby food section. Ella’s is a commonly sold brand if you don’t want to make your own!

  49. This was delicious! I ended up cooking this on a stovetop griddle and it came out juicy and very tasty! It was a big hit at my house so I’ll definitely make it again soon!

  50. Another winner!!! This was really a great marinade. I would use it on a pork tenderloin, too. I made some coconut brown rice to serve with this chicken and added some snow peas. This will be on repeat in my house!!!

  51. This is a scrumptious recipe! I made this recipe last night. It is easy to put together and the sauce smelled so good. My Husband and I are big fans of Korean BBQ. When he looked at what I was making, he went out side and shoveled a path through the snow to get to the grill 🙂

  52. Hi Gina, I noticed the video shows you topping the wraps with Gochuang sauce but it is not mentioned in the recipe. Do we need it? What is it? I am new to Korean food. Thanks! The recipe sounds amazing!

    1. It is a hot sauce – similar to sriracha, but maybe a bit sweeter.  Really good!  I used to use sriracha in everything, but have switched to gochuchang

  53. This was a big hit with my boys (ages 11 and 14). It’s the middle of winter right now so I broiled the chicken for about 4 min each side. It turned out great. I also didn’t pound the chicken as my husband was able to cut the breasts pretty thinly. Be sure to try this recipe even if you don’t have a grill!

  54. ANOTHER fabulous recipe, thank you Gina! I live in rainy Vancouver BC so I broiled the chicken: 3 minutes one side, 5 the other; turned out perfect. My husband raved about it too. Thank you so much for sharing all your inspirational recipes! Am always amazed that I have most ingredients on-hand already.

  55. I made this tonight and we really enjoyed it. I served it with coleslaw and grilled pineapple. Getting back to healthy eating after the holiday indulgence!

  56. Have this marinating now. I am using honey instead of brown sugar and coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. Changed the recipe to make it Paleo. Can’t wait to try it! Making cauliflower stir fried rice to go with it.

  57. This looks delicious. My husband is highly allergic to garlic (sad but true)! What would you suggest to use as a replacement?

  58. Made this for dinner tonight and everyone loved it.
I have to say, i have made quite a few of your recipes and they’ve never failed. Delicious ?

  59. Thinking about using boneless skinless chicken thighs and skewering them, and grilling. I have Korean style red pepper, which I haven’t used yet. how much would I use to substitute it for red pepper flakes?

  60. Made this tonight. Everyone loved it. I used homemade applesauce and and used a little cayenne instead of red pepper flakes; it was delicious. Had lots of fun flattening the chicken breasts! Served with rice and steamed broccoli.

    Hey everyone, hi Gina !

I made this fabulous recipe tonight for dinner. However, I did’nt have chicken breast at hands, I used drumsticks and used your ”Asian glazed drumsticks” instructions to cook it. I only added 1/2 cup of water to the Korean glazed and the magic happened ! Thank you so much for making weightloss easier and … tastier ! I tought I’d let everyone know since I always look in the comment section for extra advice and potential modifications.

Keep up the awesome work, I love everything you do !

  62. Made this with coconut rice tonight *drools*
So tasty! Your recipes are always delicious, yet simple to put together. Thank you!

  63. Great marinade/sauce.  Cooked on the stove top and was delicious.   Might try the broiler tonight.  Served with cauliflower rice.  Great combo!  Easy and delicious!

  64. My husband and son loves the Korean food they ate while traveling there so I made this for them and they loved it! I was actually looking for a Korean beef recipe and I found one on another website but your marinade looked easier and called for a lot less sesame oil so I used your marinade recipe and flank steak. It was delicious! Thanks for so many great recipes!

  65. Fantastic marinade!  Easy to make, very flavorful.  No more bland or boring grilled chicken. Thank you, Gina!

  66. I love this recipe. I live in an apartment and don’t have a BBQ, so I baked them in my toaster oven at 400 F for 20 minutes and they came out perfect. No charred marks, sadly, but the flavour is there.

  67. What kind of veggie slaw would you recommend?  Do you have a recipe for a good slaw dressing too?

This was absolutely delish! Made a double batch to have for leftovers and grilles indoors on a grill pan so flavorful and juicy! I absolutely love your recipes made the butternut squash eollups a couple days ago and it was amazing as well just added turkey Italian sausage… your site keeps me and my bestie on track! I’m down 13lbs and she is down 23….. and it doesn’t feel like a diet at all because everything is gourmet and amazing! Thanks for all the hard work you do and helping so many others achieve their goals! I have your skinny taste cookbook and looking forward to new ones

    1. This was my question too!! I think I’ll add them to the marinade, but save a few for sprinkling on top. 🙂

  69. Hi Gina,

Oddly enough, I did not have any applesauce on hand but I had a very ripe guava. I simply mashed the guava and added it to the marinade (no additional water or sugar). I grilled the chicken on my indoor girl pan, with pieces of guava chunks and it was delicious! I may try with papaya and other fruits in the future and get a unique side dish out of this recipe.

    Thank you!

  70. A Favorite family recipe! My daughter had to do a food/culture project for her class and she chose Korean cuisine so she could share this dish with her classmates. She calls it the “the best chicken she’s ever had!” The marinade makes the chicken so flavorful and juicy.

  71. My friends and family all raved about this chicken. It is so good! And easy!
As my kids would say- winner, winner, chicken dinner 🙂

I made this tonight for my family and they were amazing. They were so moist and flavorful. I toasted a lot of extra sesame seeds to put on top at the end! This will be on our family menu from here on out!

  73. Hi Gina,

I have the gojugaru sauce that i’d like to use in this recipe. How do you substitute? Do you still need soy sauce, and how much goju would you use? Would you still use the red pepper flakes and apple sauce?
    Thanks!

  74. Amazing recipe – even the picky eaters in the family loved this one. Will definitely be making this again!

  75. It’s too cold to grill here now. Do you think you could cook these in the Instant Pot with the sauce?

  81. We made this last night for dinner.  Everyone loved it.  Getting 4 out of 4 people to enjoy anything is a mini miracle in my house so we will be making it again.  Easy to make and pefect for a busy night.  We served it over rice. Thanks for a recipe that was flavorful, and healthy for us too.

  82. Hi – making this tonite and looking forward to it. However, I get 4 points when I plug the info into the Weight Watchers site.

    1. Did you use the recipe builder? The only accurate way to determine any recipe’s SmartPoints® value is to plug the ingredients into the recipe builder on the Weight Watchers website (Click on “My Foods,” select “Recipe,” and click “Create a recipe.”) which does not count fruits and vegetables in recipes in the calculations as they are now 0 points.

  83. I saw this recipe on FB and was immediately drawn to it because of the marinade. I wanted to make it but only had a rotisserie chicken on hand. I forged ahead and made the marinade, shredded the chicken, and let it sit in the marinade for a bit. I quickly pan sauteed just to heat through. I used the meat in lettuce wraps. So good! It is all about the marinade for me!

I would like to make tonight but don’t have any fresh ginger would ground work? If so how much? Thanks!

  85. I’ve got this marinating and ready to go on the grill tomorrow. I’ll serve with brown rice and grilled zucchini. Any idea if using the extra 1/4 cup of reserved marinade could be made into some kind of sauce for the rice instead of using it to brush on the chicken?

I loved this. Too often chicken breast is dry and this was so moist. And I agree about using the sauce. I will make an extra batch of the sauce to use with other things.   Thank you so much for your recipes and for the Weight Watchers info. It makes my WW recipes gourmet. Also I really appreciate your Instant Pot recipes. im still an IP novice so need your guidance. Thanks again,  kate

  97. I love Skinnytaste & have one of your cookbooks. Could you please do some recipes for the InstantPot? I bought one for the time issue & would love to use your recipes.

  98. We had this for dinner tonight…DELISH!!! I doubled the recipe and we had them in lettuce wraps with thinly sliced carrots, cucumbers, radishes, and topped with Sriracha!
Thanks! We will definitely have this again!

    1. Jenn, thanks for the additional inspiration for the two extra pieces I had DH grill last night. This was so good served with rice and grilled veg, but I Love it when I can plan for and serve leftovers in a slightly different way.

  99. Made this today for my husband and myself for lunch. Had it with 1/2 cup of brown rice and grilled green beans. It’s delicious and we are also both dark meat eaters. Thanks for making this weight watchers journey flavorful and healthy. (BTW my teens were both eating pizza with friends and we weren’t even tempted.)

  100. Out of curiosity – when do you add the green onion? The instructions list ‘onion’ which I assumed was just the yellow onion, but maybe I’m wrong.

  101. Wow!  So easy, tons of flavor and the chicken was so tender (I did use organic breasts).  I didn’t have applesauce so puréed 1/2 a small apple, and added a healthy dash of red pepper flakes rather than the optional teaspoon.  I will definitely be making this all summer, it was my first grill of 2017 – bring on the warm weather!

  102. Gina thanks for this recipe…..I have made it several times and my family loves it; however, I am wondering about the points; I just joined weight watchers and when I put the calculations in (on their website) it comes up with 4 points, not 3.

  103. Hey, I’m a Korean-American and I make bulgogi similar to this recipe. For this recipe, I just blended the apple, onion, ginger, and garlic together because I find that easier to do. Also I added more gocharu than the recipe called for because I love spice!  I let this marinade sit for about for hours. For people that are wondering, the apple adds a great flavor and also tenderizes meat! I would use a fresh apple blended rather than apple sauce though.

Thank you for this wonderful recipe. I make this regularly and my entire family loves it. It’s quick, easy and so yummy. I serve this with rice for my family but I eat it with rice cauliflower.

    1. This was delicious and except for waiting  an hour for it to marinate ,it did not take long . Also I had all the ingredients and it was last minute. Loved it and I will plan to make this chicken again.I am a WW and really appreciate your recipes with the freestyle points values.

  105. What makes it Korean? I expected to see some Gojuchan sauce. Just curious, it sound delicious. Your recipes are always awesome.  Thanks for sharing!

    1. It’s very close to a traditional Korean marinade. Instead of applesauce, a grated Korean pear would be used, no yellow onion – only scallions, and the red pepper flakes would be the Korean variety Gojugaru, instead the standard red pepper flakes (it’s made from a totally different pepper). But this is very close to what you’d find in any Korean household. You could use Gojuchan if you have that. It would taste great too!

  106. I made this for dinner tonight, and it was excellent!!  My husband and I have been on a weight loss diet, and lots of other recipes I have tried are just so-so.  All of the recipes that I have made from your postings have been delicious.  Thank you so much for your help in making our weight loss plan more flavorful.

      1. I have Skinnytaste and love it. I used to think that if I got a few good recipes from a book, I did well.  This cookbook surpasses any others I have bought by far – I love and frequently make many of the recipes in Skinnytaste!

  107. It was a hit. I didn’t have apple sauce so I pureed an apple. Turned out very tasty and the chicken stayed moist….and the addition of the chili flakes was a good amount of heat. Will make this again for sure. Oh…btw I baked it I didn’t grill it.

    1. I was just wondering about others ways to cook this. It’s marinating but its raining cats and dogs here so I cant grill. Baking it is.

    1. I think the applesauce is there for flavor and not a replacement for fat (like you would use for baking)….perhaps you could puree canned pears or use apple juice.

    2. Jamie, & others who might wonder, I realize this has been up a while. I had the same no applesauce concern! I use 1/2 fresh apple (with skin), put all ingredients in blender or just pulse the apple with the soy sauce, then continue as written. I don’t worry about having applesauce on hand. We usually eat Honeycrisp or Gala, so that’s what I use. I think any flavorful apple would work well. We love this recipe-thanks Gina!

  108. Made this last week for dinner, and my husband has requested it again today. It’s a hit!

Thank you for your hard work. Our dinners are almost exclusively from your website.

Had this for dinner last night, this was so good. We will have this regularly. Just want to say thanks for the great recipes that lets us watch our calories but I still get to have fun in the kitchen.

  110. This is tasty and easy, it is going in my meal rotation. I cooked it in a pan also, didn’t pound, used red onion,, a touch of molasses and regular splenda, olive oil and no scallions. I used the red pepper flakes and the heat level was perfect (I like medium hot) I look forward to making some of your other recipes, I love working with new ingredients and discovering new tastes.

  111. Made this last night, yummy. Put it with brown rice in a lettuce wrap. My children told me I can make this again!

To the complaints I read you might want to rethink.  4 oz of raw chicken cooks down to 3 oz which is 2 smart points.  The rest of the ingredients spread over 4 servings and cooked off are probably the extra 1 smart point.  I can’t wait to try this tonight as Gina’s dishes are consistently great!

  114. Well, I think I understand why they call for low sodium soy sauce. I didn’t and it was way too salty. 🙁

  115. Hi Gina, First I have to say, I always love your recipes. Skinnytaste is my go-to for tasty recipes. I do want to ask about the points bc even though I see a lot of comments about them , I haven’t seen an answer yet. When I use the WW calculator , I come up with each serving being 4 SP, not 3 SP. Can you please clear this up for me? I’m making this tonight and I’m considering having 2 servings in lettuce wraps.
    Thanks again. Always good!

So if you see a recipe with a SmartPoints® value that’s different from what the calculator tells you, that is why.

O.M.G. This is the best chicken marinade I’ve ever tasted! I live in WI so I baked the chicken instead of grilling it! I can’t wait to grill it when the weather gets nice! This recipe is a must! I’ve shared it on FB & WW Connect!

  119. Hi there,

I used this marinade on salmon fillets last night and charred on the BBQ. It was amazing. I will be making this in bulk from now on.

Oh my gosh! This is soooo good! It is game changing for my Asian food cravings! Thanks so much for all your wonderful, healthy recipes! It makes a healthy lifestyle so much more exciting!

  123. I liked this but didn’t love it. The marinade wasn’t really that special to me. My SO liked it though and it made it a nice thursday night dinner with the pesto baked tomatoes and a nice green salad.

  124. I made this for dinner and my husband and I really enjoyed it. I wasn’t able to get apple sauce so I tried grating an apple. Next time I’ll try to get apple sauce.

I have made many recipes from your site and have never been disappointed. Love em!

  126. Fantastic! I whizzed the marinade with my stick mixer so it took max 10 min to prepare. I sprinkled on the scallions at serving time. Made extra marinade which I diluted with more apple sauce for serving. Thanks!

  127. Garlic messes with my digestive system, will eliminating the garlic totally screw up the recipe? Do you think you could even taste ¼ the garlic? I love garlic but it doesn’t love me!

  128. I have made this three times for guests. Everyone love it! I use a mix of boneless thighs and boneless breasts. I let it marinade for a couple of days ahead of time. Serve with an Asian couscous and big salad, it makes a simple delicious meal!

  129. this was delicious! we are approaching the 7th circle of hell in TN so i made it on a griddle pan – LOVE the marinade! i doubled it, so i still have some left! thinking of trying it with pork and beef as well!!! another home run!!!

  130. I made this twice with chicken per the instructions and got rave reviews. I had a pork loin one week that needed to be used up and marinated it in this sauce then grilled it kebab style with tasty results. Such a versatile marinade. Thanks for sharing!

I’m making this for dinner tonight. As I was calculating the smart points, I came up with 4 for 4 ounces (cal 180, sat fat 1, sugar 6 and protein 25). FYI

  132. This was fantastic! Loved by the whole family.

I had no applesauce so added a tablespoon of sweet chili sauce and omitted the chili peppers, tasted great.

Don’t forget to oil the grill, I did and the chicken stuck a bit, but still great.

    Thanks GIna!

  133. This was so delicious.  It was amazing how juicy the chicken was and the marinade really gave it an amazing flavor.  I make a lot of your recipes, but this one made me go online to comment!  Kudos Gina!!!

  134. Moderator – is the nutritional info updated by your RD? Saw a reference you were updating it but maybe I kissed the post with the updated counts. Thanks!

  135. Great Recipe!! I didnt have any apple sauce so I peeled and blended an apple, I also blended the onion and garlic (sorry I’m lazy!), Two thumbs up, I am excited to try this on tofu as well!

  136. OMG this is SO good! Just so you know, I normally don’t like sweet asian sauces on meat. My bf was coming over for dinner, and I thought he’d like this, so I gave it a shot. WOW!  We both couldn’t stop raving about it! Delish! I served it with a miso edamame cucumber salad. YUM!

Delicious!  I’ve made this for family and also to serve for a dinner with friends.  It’s also on the menu for this evening and it’s one of those dishes that gets the entire household excited for dinner.

  138. Gina, I just want to say wow! I have never gone to a comments section of a recipe and seen so many positive reviews!!! I cannot wait to try this! Thank you for preparing this recipe, sharing it, and the pictures are also very helpful too! xoxo

  139. Does anyone know if these Korean grilled chicken breasts freeze well/thaw and reheat well later? Thanks!

  140. My daughter brought the marinated chicken over for us to bbq…. it was really amazingly tasty and we all enjoyed it, even tho some of us have different tastes. I cant wait to make it! Thank you

  141. Made this recipe for dinner tonight and it was amazing. Glad I stumbled upon this website earlier in the week. I left out the ginger and served it over spaghetti squash. Can’t wait to make this again and try other recipes.

  142. We tried this a month or so ago and have made it about 5 times since. It is SO good, and not time consuming (always a plus when you have little ones taking your attention). The kids can’t get enough of this, and my husband and I could eat it every night (we aren’t hard to please, but we do love a good Korean recipe!). Thanks so much!

  143. I’m so glad to have discovered your website. Thank you for the pictures, and recipes, and reviews!! I’ve already been back 5-6 times.

  144. The hype is REAL!  After hearing so many rave reviews from the WW community, I had to try this.  It’s AWESOME!  The hubs loved it, too!  I marinated it overnight and cooked it in a skillet.  I will be having leftovers for lunch tomorrow and I can’t wait!!

  145. I made these for dinner last night and you are not kidding when you say this is the BEST grilled chicken recipe! My biggest complaint with grilled chicken is that it can be so bland sometimes – this was so flavorful! I served it with broccoli/cauliflower slaw but next time I’m going to divide up the marinade and serve it over rice. Thanks for the great recipe!

  148. I can’t believe how simple and AMAZING this was! I doubled recipe and followed it to the T.  Never again will I be purchasing those nasty bottles sauces.

  149. We love this recipe! My 8 year old son is very picky about sauces and marinades, but he gobbled this one up! I’ve made it with both chicken breast and thighs and it is always a winner!

Did you ever think of using Fuji apples grated into the sauce instead of applesauce to sweeten the Korean sauce?

    1. I just grated a Fuji Apple into my marinade, as I didn’t have any applesauce on hand. I also didn’t have any sesame oil on hand, nor olive oil, nor canola,  I used mayo. I’ll let you know how my daring substitutes worked. ( I didn’t like the color-I pray the taste is good.

      1. Okay. All done. Due to time and ingredient constraints, I begin by saying,, I was looking for a flavorful and new recipe for chicken, which, these days, have become, a common ingredient. Your recipe inspired me! I used what I had on hand: chicken breasts, chicken thighs, drumsticks. I cut them all (except the breasts -bone in- cut in half), away from the bone, bone still in.  I did not pound. Nor do my hour marinate. I cleaned & cut up my chicken. Cut my onions (both), grated my ginger, tripled my recipe (big family), grated my apple, crushed my garlic, mixed soy sauce, my ingredients. Since I didn’t marinade, I sprinkled my chicken with granulated garlic, onion, ground pepper, a bit of seasoned salt. I poured marinade all over it. It was very wet, I wanted crispy, tender, and juicy, and I was baking it. I put my oven on 475 degrees for 45 minutes, and prayed. It was beautiful! A wonderful golden crispy on top, juicy, and tender beneath. Flavor throughout. Thank you Gina, next time, I’ll have all goods on board. It was great!

      2. Color in the end was beautiful. AI jus. Used it on the rice, and parts of the chicken, served w/ corn on cob.
        The End.

Made the dinner by doubling the recipe. It was wxcellent. I would have liked a little extra sauce to serve on top. Serviced with jasmine rice and an Asian slaw hit. It was easy and delishios!!. Is a keeper.  Thank you.

    1. Next time try using a little cornstarch for the saved 1/4 cup of marinade to make a sauce with instead of using it directly on the chicken as you cook it.

I just made the marinade tonight to bbq these for tomorrow night so they will sit all night and day l.l….I can not wait it smells so good…….I can not wait to eat.I am obsessed with the korean bowls lol those are now my lunch go to………these I think will def be a go to for bbq

  153. Wow – looks amazing. I love cooking asian food on my grill. Makes a nice change to covering meat in bbq sauce!

  154. This recipe gets better and better every time I make it!!!  My kids and hubby LOVE it!!  I always make with jasmine rice (kids favorite) and a green veggie (tonight was broccoli). I like to use boneless/skinless chicken thighs instead of breasts…just a little juicier.  I also slice the chicken in bite size pieces after it cools then mix it in the extra marinade…then we just scoop over our rice.  So good!!!  Thank you so much for sharing your talent with the world!!

  155. I made this tonight. Due to weather I baked it in the oven, the chicken was so tender! Great recipe.

  156. Not sure if people are using the new Weight Watchers Smart Points system, but I got exactly what Gina got in terms of Smart Points calculation.  16 oz of raw chicken breasts is 7 points + the marinate (in total 5 points) = 12 points divided by 4 = 3 points per serving.  Maybe it is because the measurement of the chicken is 16oz raw, not 16oz cooked chicken.  Could that be what is confusing everyone else?

I have made this time and again and it is one of my favourite recipes. I decided to make my own applesauce rather than buy a jar and then only use 1/4 cup. I also add a 1/2 tsp of Sambal Oelek instead of pepper flakes as I love the heat. Great dish. Thank you.

  159. This is incredible!!! I am addicted to this recipe! Thank you so much. Your recipes look and taste incredible!

  160. Hi,
I just found your website as I was looking for healthy chicken recipes. I count my macros, so when i saw you include the nutritional info I was beyond thrilled! this gave me a better idea of if I could make your recipes as well as sides and vegetables I could add to it and still meet my macros.
I wrote down your Chicken Fajitas, Chicken Thai stir fry, as well as this recipe. I cannot wait to try these and I just wanted to send you a big thank you. I have book marked this site, for sure!
    Sending tons of love,
    Katie

  161. Absolutely delicious! We made this for the first time tonight and I have already added to our family favorites. We are going to try it on pork soon. Thank you for the great recipe.

  162. We made this tonight with some jasmine rice with coconut oil and some grilled pineapple on the side.  Simply delicious..I don’t think I could have ever survived WW and gotten to goal and maintained without Gina and Skinnytaste.  Thank you Gina, for your GREAT RECIPES!!!

  163. I forgot to set aside the 1/4 c of marinade to brush on the chicken, but it was absolutely delicious anyway, fresh out of my grill pan. My roommate loved it too. It was such a simple meal — I made plain brown rice on the side and French cut green beans with a little bit of butter — but the roommate said it was a classy dish. 🙂

  164. Are we sure this is only 3 points? One pound of chicken, 4 servings…that’s a 4 oz. serving of chicken which should be 4 points alone, not even adding the marinade yet…

  165. Making this for the 2nd time. First time was such a huge hit  that I have to make it again!  The marinade smells so yummy that I could just eat it on it’s own.  Super easy recipe!  Thanks!

  166. I made this 4 days ago and loved it.  The marinade could have been on the chicken longer, so here I am making it again with the intention of soaking it overnight and possibly using the pressie cooker tomorrow!  Thanks for the yummy recipe!

  167. This was seriously amazing! I marinated it overnight though and I am so glad I did. I couldn’t wait to have it the next day for leftovers. I will definitely be making this again, it was way better than any marinade in a jar thats for sure!

The nutritional information on this is way off.  It is more like if there were 8 servings.  Still not bad though.  When I put it into MFP I get 214 calories per serving for a 4oz. serving.

  171. Made this last night and my family absolutely loved it. I’ve been asked to make it again today! Also i brought some leftovers for lunch in and i have to say, i was surprised at how much tastier it was – flavors were stronger than last night.

    Definitely a keeper!!!

  172. Has anyone tried this without the brown sugar? I'm doing whole 30 and am wondering if it would still be good minus the sugar.

    Thanks!

I’m going to try it with a couple of pureed dates instead of the sugar. I have a feeling It’s probably sweet enough with just the applesauce and the coconut aminos though. :). I’ll try to let you know how it turns out after I make it!!! #whole30 #yougotthis!

Its 100% wrong.  Just the chicken, sesame oil & brown sugar puts you over 2oo calories. Very misleading.

      1. Thanks for pointing out the error, however that’s a bit harsh. Mistakes happen, I have already contacted my RD and she is looking into this to see what the error is.

    1. Hi Michele,
I often pound out chicken breast for ease of cooking – I don’t have a mallet either. You can use anything – bottom of a mason jar, bottom of drinking glass, butchers knife handle (VERY CAREFULLY). It makes such a difference for ease of cooking. Sure Perdue would work just as well – I just find that sometimes those type of cuts are slightly more expensive. Good Luck!

      1. Made me get chills up my spine…..Sounds dangerous pounding with glass or a knife! How about a small sauce pan or can of veggies or beans! Much safer.

    2. I stick the breasts in a gallon freezer bag and pound those babies with the side of my fist. No tools needed.

  174. If you're having doubts about making this and love Asian elements in food.. definitely try this!! This is now one of my favorite recipes and the marinade is delicious. Can't wait to try on other meat.

  175. Love the marinade. I chose to use beef instead of chicken and it is amazing on my grill pan. I now make this every Sunday night as part of my weekly meal prep. I double the recipe for 2 lbs of meat. One son adds steamed, brown basmati rice and a green veggie, the other just a green veggie and for myself, I toss it in a kale salad.

I made this and it was delicious. Instead of red pepper flakes I added sriracha sauce, about 1-2 tsps and it was such a good addition.

  177. Making this tonight, I am so excited.
FYI, I put this into the WW recipe builder and it came up as 4 smart points, not 3.

  178. Is the apple sauce something I can omit entirely? I have a severe allergy to some fruits (apples, pears, kiwi.. The list goes on unfortunately). Just wondering if it's a key ingredient or if there's something I can sub in.

    1. Christine T, I made this for dinner last night. I didn’t have any applesauce on hand as the recipe called for. However, I DID have some sugar free apricot jam! I just used a couple tablespoons of the jam in place of the applesauce as I’m sure the jam was much sweeter in taste, than the applesauce. The recipe turned out delicious and the family loved the moist, tender chicken. So, I’d say, use whatever fruit you are able to use in a jam or pureed form. If you’re counting calories or WW SP’s adjust accordingly. But, you have to try this recipe! Good luck!

      1. Thank you for the jam tip, Tammy. I will have to try it since I don’t normally have applesauce on hand.

  179. How can this be 121 calories when (according to internet) 4 oz. of raw b/s chicken breast is 124 calories by itself?

    1. using the WW app, I calculated 121 calories of chicken to = 2.6 oz.  A 4 oz serving of boneless, skinless chicken breast is 185 calories.

Made this for dinner tonight, it was very good will definitely be in my rotation, thinking about trying it with shrimp, what do you think?

  181. Made this tonight, and it goes onto my list of top 10 favorites. Even my kids ate it right up. My only regret is not doubling the marinade and using 1/2 as a sauce for rice (or in our case tonight, over broccoli).

Also, I cooked in a pan on the stove top because we are in the middle of a snow storm and it turned out fine. Additionally, my ginger, garlic and even onions were granulated/dried because I needed to go to the grocery store. But it was still amazing. Really, really tasty.

  182. I will definitely be making this again. My husband and children loved it! I cooked it in a skillet and it turned out great. I was able to use the marinate from the pan. Paired it with rice and broccoli. Made the marinate the night before and marinated the chicken about an hour once I got home from work. Easy, quick, delicious meal.

I am thinking I might be able to make this and freeze the chicken and have it ready as a freezer meal? I wonder if the marinade would "soak" in too much?

  186. Did this in a grill pan and was delicious!! We both loved it and my husband is a very fussy eater!! I served it with rice!! Sure would make it again and again!

  187. Made this for me and my honey tonight! He's always been afraid of chicken drying out on the grill, but this marinade was PERFECT and we loved every bite. I made an Asian-style broccoli slaw and I served it with a side of rice drizzled with soy sauce and sriracha, as well as fresh avocado spritzed with lime. C'est parfait! Thank you, Gina, for another incredible recipe!!

  188. Hi
I just wanted to share that I made this last night and replaced the soy with coconut aminos (same qty) and didn't add the brown sugar so it was Paleo and Whole 30 compliant. We ate it with salad and some baked butternut pumpkin. It was so delicious so these changes are fine to make. Thank you for sharing and I love your blog and recipes. Long time reader – Kat

  189. This recipe was absolutely amazing! I doubled the marinade and tossed in some button mushrooms and onion chunks for kabobs. The chicken was tender and delicious and the veggie kabobs put it over the top. I will definitely be making it again!

  190. I cute up the chicken breasts into small pieces and marinated it in the sauce then I stir fried it with bell peppers yummy. I served it over rice. Tonight I will server it over chow mein noodles

Made this today for lunch and very good. The marinade was very easy to throw together, and I let the chicken breasts marinade over night. I sliced them today and pan-fried them. I served them with brown rice and sauteed red peppers. This was a very good lunch and my husband was pleased. We love spice and enjoyed the red pepper flakes. Thank you!!!

  192. I made this with a couple of changes. I did not have red pepper flakes so I used cayenne pepper. I grilled in my Nuwave Oven. I put it on a bed of zucchini noodles, sauteed in sesame oil & garlic. This was my first time making this and got raving reviews from my son & daughter in law. I will make this again. Thanks

This recipe is absolutely delicious! I have recommended it many times, and have only heard positive feedback from friends that I have tried it. I actually am planning on making this at the football tailgate on Sunday (doing a cleanse) so this low calorie lunch will be just perfect! 🙂

  196. I made these tonight. They were EXCELLENT. I even forgot to marinate them, so I just threw some chicken thighs into a ziplock with a bit of soy sauce for about 20 min pre-grilling. My husband grilled them and brushed your marinade on (I even cheated and just used garlic and onion powder) and it STILL turned out fabulous. Definitely going in our regular rotation. 😉 Anything that turns out great for a self-declared slacker like me gets two thumbs up! lol. ~Michelle W.

  197. I made this tonight. I didn't have applesauce so I just grated up an apple. I let it marinate in the fridge for about 5 hours. It tasted SO good. I grilled it on my grill pan and it took longer to cook up than the recommended time in the recipe. It also didn't look like the picture. I served it with some green beans sautéed in olive oil and sesame oil and topped with sesame seeds. Would definitely make again!!!

  198. I love all foods "Asian" and I love your recipes. So glad when the two collided. I'm just not sure how it took me a month to see the post – maybe that new grand baby 🙂

  199. Made this last night with chicken and it was great! No changes made to the recipe and it turned out tasty even though my grilling skills weren't as good! 🙂

  200. Has anyone tried this using beef? Having a BBQ this weekend and would like to serve chicken and flank steak.

  201. I made this tonight. AH-MAZING! My kids even asked if they could lick their plates. A win in my house!

  202. I made this last night, my husband was impressed! I prepped the chicken and marinade the night before I cooked it. So juicy and tender!

  203. I made this tonight! It is delicious!! A family pleaser for sure! I have been making at least 1 Skinnytaste recipe a day this week either from the cookbook, website or both. I love that this recipe shakes things up in my kitchen and will become a new go to recipe!

  204. We had this tonight and it was AMAZING!!! I marinated it all afternoon and it was the most tender and juicy chicken I've EVER had!!! Thank you for the recipe!

  205. This is s dumb question. Do you just sprinkle the scallions while its grilling? I didn't see them added in the marinade.

  206. This is so yummy and simple. We ate it with green apple and cabbage slaw and it was great together. Thank you!

  207. Can this be made on the stovetop in a skillet instead of a grill pan because I do not have a grill pan and my oven is broken?

  208. Tried this recipe last weekend over brown rice. I don't cook much and wanted to surprise my wife. Came out great. Easy to prepare, not messy at all, quick clean up. I will probably back off on the red pepper a little next time around. And preheat the grill pan before putting the chicken on it. Didn't get the sear as well as desired. But extremely tastey.

  209. I made this for dinner last night with rice and sauteed green beans. We loved it! My husband said he liked it so much better than the bottled marinade. I'll definitely be making this again!

  210. I raced home on my lunch break and started the chicken marinating for tonights dinner. Looks yummy and cannot wait to try it.

  211. I made this last night for my boyfriend and I and I couldn't believe how moist the chicken breast was after less than hour in the marinade! I love your recipes, they're so simple and quick! I'll definitely be making this again!

  212. Hi Gina! My husband and I made this last week and it was sooooooooo flavorful! We marinated the chicken for 24 hours, which I think definitely added to all the flavor.

This will become a regular for us in the summer. Thank you!

  213. This was delicious – in fact, we had it twice this week!! Once with chicken breasts and the second time with thighs. You never fail us – every recipe we try is fantastic – thank you!

    love to cook!

Gina I ended up making this with grating the onion and I thought I had fresh ginger and I only had dried ground ginger not fresh and it was so good either way. Thank you so much

  215. This is amazing! My husband is a chef and made something similar after we had this for dinner using duck. They loved it too!

Gina, are the onions finely chopped or chopped medium. The recipe says finely. But the picture does not looked finely chopped. My husband hates onions that he sees.

    Thank you

  217. I was hoping to make to take to another family. Should I cook only halfway done and tell them to warm it in the oven? I'm afraid if I cook for the full time and they reheat it, the chicken will be dry.

I made this recipe for dinner the other night,I didn't have any applesauce on hand so I peeled. chopped and cooked one medium fuji apple and let it cool and used it in place of the applesauce. I served it with a Trader Joe's Scallion Pancakes (Pa jeon) it was delish! My hubby voted to keep this on the rotation because it was quick, easy and great for a weeknight dinner.

This is my new favorite!! I made it last night using boneless, skinless thighs. Everyone devoured it. We were out of propane so I made it on a nonstick grill pan. Served it with potato salad and roasted broccoli. Delish!!!!

  220. I have a question on the sesame oil – should it be plain sesame oil or toasted sesame oil – or does it matter? I haven't made very many Asian recipes.

  221. Made this last night on the BBQ and it was delicious! I marinaded the chicken overnight in this, and served it with quinoa and Asian slaw. Delicious. My only concern with the nutritional info provided is that anything I read says a 4 oz chicken breast can be 140-180 calories, plus you have to account for a few calories from the marinade as well. So not sure where the calorie count comes from, but still a delicious meal that's not going to break the calorie count if served with health sides.

  222. I made this last night and my family LOVED it. I made extra
marinade and the kids soaked it up with veggies and brown rice. Thank you Gina for making such a wonderful and easy recipe!

  223. Great recipe! I made it with boneless skinless chicken thighs instead of breasts, and marinated it about 4 hours. Super tender and flavorful meat. Great leftovers for lunch the next day, too!

I made this recipe the other night for dinner. It was wonderful. I will be adding it to my meal rotation. Thank you for your healthy delicious recipes. I check your site first before I visit any other site for recipe inspiration.

This recipe was awesome! My husband and I really enjoyed it… so did our 1 year old! Kid approved!

  226. We made this last week and it was so so good. My kids loved it and my husband thought it was one of the best grilled chicken recipes we have ever tried. I made a chinese chicken salad and served it over that. Kids ate it with rice.

Just had this for dinner and it was wonderful. I made the applesauce as I had a couple of apples around. The chicken is so moist and tender – could almost cut with my fork. Thank you.

  228. that's a lot of garlic and ginger for just two chicken breasts, that's like a clove per breast, unfortunately my kiddos couldn't eat this but I'm determined to try again but maybe adjust the garlic and ginger.

  229. Followed your recipe & whole family voted it a winner! Already have chicken to make again this week. May also have beef stir fry to try it on.

  230. Made this last night and it was amazing! Quadrupled the recipe as we had company for dinner and have lots of left overs, but not sure they'll last too long! So flavorful and quick to cook. Made some veggie fried rice to serve alongside,

  231. Delicious! So much flavor for so little effort! Like a previous poster, I served it with your strawberry cucumber salad (also yummy) and a caprese to take advantage of my "cukes," basil and tomatoes!

  232. We loved this! Has just the right amount of bite…I served it with rice and Asian slaw with ginger dressing.

  233. I second @summer's question – could you marinate overnight/stick the chicken in the marinade and freeze?

  234. I made this for my husband and son this afternoon, must say they loved it!! I bought book couple days ago as well so I have been trying several things! I paired this with zucchini squash "noodles" and a vibrant colored salad (lettuce, purple cabbage, carrots, pepper rings, avocodo with a very light dressing (zingy one) I was out of charcoal so I put it on top of stove and it was still delish! will def have again!

  235. I made it today and it was delicious!!! No left overs tonight.
Thank you so much for all these healthy and tasty recipes.

  236. This was great! I had it with a side of the strawberry and cucumber salad you posted before it. I was craving some freshness so it was perfect!
Thanks again for another lovely recipe. You have really helped keep me on track before my wedding 🙂

  237. Delicious!! I cooked it on stove-top grill pan and served over a bed of sauteed onions. Will certainly make this again. Thanks!

  238. This was fantastic! We made it for dinner tonight and my kids are picky so I made them a plain chicken breast, but they tried this and loved it, I should have marinated them all! Super yummy and perfect for our family. My husband was a huge fan as well.

  239. I made this last night and doubled the recipe since I was feeding 7. The girls love Korean food, so I had high hopes. Aside from doubling, I followed the recipe exactly. When I was making the marinade, I was sensing something was off, and after cooking it all, realized the flavor just wasn't right. No one really liked it and I have a ton of it left over. It is missing vinegar (or a similar acid), the flavor was just too flat as written. I added a bit of rice vinegar to a piece of leftover chicken and it does make it better. Maybe with further tweaks it would be better? Any suggestions?

    1. When I try a new recipe and it is just meh, I toss it.
I only remake 5 star dishes.
There are too many recipes I want to try to keep tinkering with something we didn't love the first time out.

  240. We made this last night with some roasted broccoli. It was sooooo good, sweet and spicy and moist; my husband raved. A sure winner!!

  241. Gina, this was so DELICIOUS. I'm going to try the marinade with pork.
    Thanks again for another winner!!!

    Sue

  242. Made this last night and it was fantastic! Kids didn't even put ketchup on it like they usually do with…everything! I served mine over a shredded kale/broccoli/brussel sprout salad. Thanks for all the awesome recipes…always my first website to go to when I need something new and healthy!

  243. Another sub for apple sauce is grated or puréed kiwi. My girlfriend is Korean and she says they use grated or puréed fruit because not only does is flavor the meat but tenderizes it.

    1. I didn't have applesauce so I chopped up a Granny Smith apple, put it in the blender with the liquid marinade ingredients and the chicken turned out fabulous. I love this dish and recommended it to my friends.

  244. Another excellent recipe, Gina! The chicken was flavorful, moist and easy to make. I only had an hour to marinade the chicken and it was still excellent.

This looks amazing! Cannot wait to try it out! Thanks, Gina for always providing awesomely unique, always delicious, super easy and most importantly SKINNY recipes!

  246. Quick question – how different is this from a teriyaki sauce? It sound awesome to me and want to make it for dinner but my hubby has complained about how much teriyaki I've been making lately. Thanks

  247. Love this recipe – honestly can't wait to try it!
Quick question – can we freeze the chicken in the marinade?

    1. Pretty certain the math for the recipe is wrong somewhere. I checked the USDA's website for the calories in the chicken alone and it lists 4 oz of raw, skinless, boneless chicken breast as 136 calories. That's 15 calories more than are listed for one serving before adding any of the other ingredients. That's physically impossible.

  248. Do you think it would work /still be good without the brown sugar? Doing a whole30 for August, and this looks really good. Just minus the sugar.

  249. I made this tonight and it was awesome! Hubby and 6-year-old son loved it, too. I served it with cauliflower rice and some curried carrot slaw. This recipe is going in to the rotation!

  250. I made this tonight – and it was just as advertised – easy, delicious, moist and full of flavor. I made some rice and Japanese style sesame broccoli.

  251. Just made this! I don't like ginger so I substituted with a little rice vinegar. Turned out great! thank you!

    1. I'm wondering the same thing! Just posted this question below. I hope she answers it. My oven is broken and I don't have a grill pan..

    1. would make it even better!!! I make Korean beef with similar marinade and leave in fridge at least over night, sometimes longer. Really absorbs the marinade.

Thanks for helping me find new, delicious ways to prepare chicken. I moved to Switzerland a couple of years ago and went from never cooking to cooking dinner every night. Can't wait to try this one for my husband.

Gina, are you certain on the WW point value? 4 oz of chicken for 3 points? Sounds too good to be true.

    1. Pretty certain there is a mistake in the math. According to the USDA 4 oz of raw, boneless, skinless breast meat is 136 calories and 3 oz of grilled, boneless, skinless, breast meat is 128 calories. Your entire recipe lists a serving as being 121 calories. An entire recipe serving can't be fewer calories than one of the ingredients. How can you have a serving of 128 calorie breast meat and add soy sauce, apple sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, etc and then have it equal 121 calories?

USDA calorie listing for the cooked chicken: http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods/show/1202

    1. FYI my sister and I definitely plan to turn this into tacos for a picnic this weekend. Looks amazing.

    2. I am going to try this and serve with spiralized sweet potatoes. Make more of the marinate to put on the sweet potatoes.

    1. I made it on my George Foreman grill last night and the extra marinade didn't let it grill as nice as in Gina's pictures. So just keep that in mind. But it still tasted delicious!

I just grille it on a very hot grill for about 2 minutes each side and it was amazing. I did pound mine out to less than 1/4 inch before marinating though…divine and still moist!!!!!

    3. I baked mine in the oven for about 20 mins at 350 in all the marinade and it was great. I use this for pork chops and pork tenderloin too, I brown whatever meat quickly in a little olive oil, put in an oven proof dish with all the marinade and bake till done.

  254. OMG! This looks delish..will be trying it this weekend! 🙂 Thanks for all the wonderful and delicious recipes!!
